Habitat Dinner & Concert November 4, 2011

Habitat Dinner and Concert
November 4, 2011
6:00 p.m.
Church of the Holy Spirit Parish Hall

Chicken dinner, apple pie dessert
AND a Chatham Chorale Chamber Singers concert
to help fund two Eastham Habitat houses to be built in 2012.

A parishioner, Christopher Lovelock, whom many will remember with fondness, left in his will money for Habitat. That money will turn into two homes in 2012. More money is needed to be able to build them. The Chatham Chorale has waived their fee to help.

Please come to the dinner/concert.
Invite a friend.

Tickets will be on sale throughout October at a price of $25.
Other ways to help (sign-up at the Reception desk):
  • Bake your best apple pie for the dessert and maybe even a pie raffle
  • Volunteer to help cook and clean up.

Join us for "Breakfast with Buddha"

The book discussion group will kick off its 2011-2012 season on Sunday, September 18 with the best seller, "Breakfast with Buddha," by Roland Merullo.

This entertaining and provoking novel about cynicism and belief together with a travelog through  contemporary America should be a welcome opportunity for anyone interested in joining the discussion, which takes place after the 10 o'clock service. Given the later hour, we  will begin discussion promptly after the service rather than allowing time to participate in coffee hour so that we should end by noon.

Books will be available on the 18th for $5.50. If you have any questions please contact Tom Dewing, 508-255-2656.

Grab a coffee and join us!

Hurricane Irene

As of the afternoon of Thursday, August 25, it seems likely that  Hurricane Irene will be paying a visit to Cape Cod.

We'll keep you posted on plans for weekend services here, and should services be cancelled, a notice will be recorded on the Parish Office telephone line.

We're very concerned that everyone stays safe, so no matter what happens, please err on the side of caution.

Adopt a Window!

The Buildings and Grounds Committee has been hard at work considering what to do about the wonderful double-casement windows in our church. The windows are opened in May and September before the air-conditioning or heating is turned.

So far, we have replaced three windows in the nave. Labor is expensive because we have chosen to keep the old glass and insert it into the new sashes. The two windows in the narthex need to be dealt with immediately due to rotting sashes. In addition, there are 15 more double-casements and three single half-sized windows which could be replaced.
In the meantime, we are trying to keep the old windows in operating order. They need re-setting, glazing and painting badly!

It has been suggested that there may be parishioners interested in “adopting” a window...that is, making a contribution to the church for the purpose of replacing one or more windows. We estimate that a double-casement window will cost around $3000 to install; a single half-size window, $1500; and a narthex window, $2000.

Donations of any size are welcome, and those participating will be named in a book displayed in the Reception Room. Church committees or groups such as the Choir or the Sunday Book Discussion Group could join together to sponsor a window.

If you are interested, please call Dave Moore at 508-247-9452; or Nat Goddard at 508-255-3818 (cell: 774-722-5352).
